Platinum Energy Group Solutions Can Benefit Long Island Student-Athletes

Lindenhurst, NY ( March 22, 2012 — As Long Island schools districts continue to wrestle with budget issues further complicated by the state’s 2-percent cap on tax increases, Suffolk County high school athletics are now feeling the crunch.

According to recent reports, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) is considering placing a two-year moratorium on all state championships and limiting the number of state championships beginning with the 2013-2014 school year. Suffolk County’s Section 11 schools contend that sending a high school varsity basketball team to the state tournament can cost as much as $10,000, money the schools argue could be better spent elsewhere.

“For the NYSPHSAA to consider measures that prevent the growth of its sports and limit the opportunities of its student-athletes is hasty and unnecessary,” says Eric Michaels, Director of Green Building Technologies for Platinum Energy Group. “It’s time to start thinking a little more creatively. If Long Island’s schools are serious about saving money to preserve their athletic programs, the most sensible solution would be to invest in projects that improve energy-efficiency.”

In response to the economic downturn, more and more schools have looked to save money by saving energy. As a leading integrated energy solutions provider, Platinum Energy Group possesses both the technical capabilities and manpower to deliver significant energy savings.

Platinum Energy Group can install a new boiler system or retrofit existing boilers with dual fuel combustion burners to run on a combination of natural gas and Number 2 fuel oil. Platinum Energy Group can also provide schools with energy efficient lighting retrofits and state-of-the-art energy management systems to monitor usage and maximize cost-effectiveness.

And with Platinum Energy Group’s extensive knowledge of all rebates and incentive programs, the cost of these operational improvements can be reduced even further. According to Newsday, the Long Island Power Authority awarded nearly $2 million in rebates to local public and private schools for energy-efficiency upgrades last year.

“For us it’s addition by subtraction,” says Michaels, “Districts have an opportunity to solve a number of budgetary problems affecting their schools with one solution. It just makes sense.”
